Learner goals and capabilities

Students at from Cape Breton University will work on organizational behaviour issues for your organization.

Through their studies, students have delved deeply into major concepts including individual values, personality, perception, learning, workplace emotions and attitudes, motivation, as well as team dynamics, communicating in organizations, conflict and negotiation and leadership, organizational structure and design, organizational culture, and organizational change.

Students will be able to think critically about organizational behaviour phenomena and will be able to analyze typical organizational behaviour problems and develop solutions in a project for your organization.

Deliverables will depend on the employer and project type.

Project Examples

Through this project, students will focus on the organizational behaviour aspect of your organization, and will be able to support you in subjects which include but are not limited to:

  • Redesign an internal system or process including: socialization, motivation, team management, learning, training
  • Develop a plan to re-imagine your mission, vision, and purpose and roll it out to employees
  • Manage a significant organizational change or restructuring
  • Integrate cultures in a merger or acquisition
  • Reduce employee turnover or absenteeism or increase workplace safety
  • Diagnose your organizational structure and its fit with your organization's strategy
  • Help you scope and develop an onboarding plan for new staff
  • Help you develop a plan to increase diversity and the positive effects of diversity in your organization

· Develop best practice guidelines for people working at home: Covering issues such as communication, teamwork, performance, work-life balance, etc.

· Draft best practice guidelines for creating a more inclusive workplace: Looking at examples subtle forms of bias under-represented groups may experience (e.g. at meetings, performance reviews, when making decisions) and how to navigate around them.

· Draft an employee complaint procedure: Drafting a policy for employee or volunteer complaints (e.g. complaints about coworkers or a manager, discrimination they may be facing, etc).

· Anything else that would fit within the class, meet the needs of your organization, and be a good experience for students.

Additional company criteria

Companies must answer the following questions to submit a match request to this experience:

A representative of the company will be available to answer questions from students in a timely manner for the duration of the project.

A representative of the company will be available for a pre-selection discussion with the administrator of the course to review the project scope.
