A rare opportunity to host qualified, tech-savvy legal assistant practicum students from the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT) starting May 2022. You may be a law firm or a legal department of any for-profit or not-for-profit organization or court directly handling legal matters.

May 2nd to the 27th, some 100 career-ready legal assistant students are looking to complete a 4-week unpaid practicums. Is this opportunity a consideration of your organization?

Expected outcomes and deliverables

Whether you are wanting a brief turnaround or a large scale contribution, project outcomes could be small or large depending on requirements. Our students are required to complete 160 hours of project placement(s) which can contribute to your project outcomes. We can be creative in our project planning to meet a variety of objectives, with milestones in place to ensure timely delivery. The placement will be completed by May, 27, 2022.

During the May practicum placements our students are aptly able to apply their career ready knowledge, skills and aptitudes marked sought competent legal administrative professionals

Highly sought after by industry our quality practicum students and graduates are well-positioned to bring an immense value proposition to any industry partner. Some of the competencies of our practicum students include:

  • Handle confidential documents and maintain confidentiality
  • Draft, prepare and proofread legal documents.
  • Adhere to a keyboarding rate with full accuracy of 60 wpm.
  • Anticipate next steps and take action, without prompting.
  • Liaise with lawyers and clients on the progress of their files.
  • Maintain a file management system.
  • Manage lawyer's schedule and telephone communication.
  • Proficient use of MS Outlook, Word, Excel, Adobe Acrobat Reader (PDF management), databases
  • Understanding of requirements and legal procedures of Wills and Estates Law, Family Law, Real Estate Law, Corporate Law, Litigation Law and Criminal Law.

Companies must answer the following questions to submit a match request to this experience:

Provide relevant information/data as needed for the project.

Provide a dedicated contact who is available to answer periodic emails or phone/virtual calls over the duration of the project to address students' questions.
