Virtual Practicum Opportunity

Bring on one or more student from SAIT’s Fast-Track Business Intelligence program to be your virtual interns, in a project-based experience. Our Fast-Track students are individuals who are changing or enhancing their current career through accelerated, skills-based hands-on training. They are a diverse group with a range of skills and interests.

Students can work on one or more project of your choosing over the practicum period, connecting with you as needed with virtual communication tools. Practicums can be paid or unpaid.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, student placements will only occur virtually.

Project Examples

What can our students do for your company?

Students can complete a substantial project for your organization over the practicum period. We suggest providing a starting project, but as the placement goes on there may be other duties or projects the student is asked to complete as well. Providing a central project creates structure for the internship and gives the student (and company) a tangible goal.

Possible projects could be:

  • Data Visualization via Power BI
  • Reporting
  • Data Consolidation and Modeling
  • Analyze data driven decision making opportunities

At the time of placements students have skills in data management, business analysis, architecture and design, ETL (extract, transform, load), reporting and analytics, online analytical processing (OLAP), and performance management applications. They learn to use Microsoft SQL Server and Business Intelligence (BI) platforms to develop, administer and analyze corporate data.

What Do We Ask of You As A Virtual Practicum Employer?

  • Use reasonable efforts to enable the student to receive broad exposure to the business carried on at your company.
  • Require the student to perform only such tasks as reasonably fall within the scope of the student's training and abilities.
  • Sign a straightforward practicum employment agreement outlining the above-mentioned responsibilities.
  • Complete a brief "Employer Work Term Evaluation Report" for the student at the end of the work experience term.
Companies must answer the following questions to submit a match request to this experience:

Practicums can be paid or unpaid. Paid practicums salary range is $15 to $22 per hour.

Sign a straightforward practicum employment agreement.

Provide a dedicated contact who will act as the student's primary supervisor over the duration of the virtual placement. A secondary contact could be provided as a backup if applicable. Students will interact virtually with their primary contact on a daily basis, or as needed.

Complete a brief "Employer Work Term Evaluation Report" for the student at the end of the work experience term.
