Looking to elevate your organization, and bring it to the next level? Bring on students from the College of Wooster to be your student-consultants, in a project-based experience. Students will work on one main project over the course of the semester, connecting with you as needed with virtual communication tools.


Students in this program/course will delve into the fundamentals of information visualization and refine their abilities to communicate data independently and collaboratively. They will utilize Tableau software to create static and interactive data visualizations, and dashboards using data from various sources. The course will cover effective storytelling, visualization analysis, data ethics, and reproducibility.

Deliverables are negotiable, and will seek to align the needs of the students and the organization.

Some final project deliverables might include:

  1. A 10-15 minute presentation on key findings and recommendations
  2. A detailed report on analysis of company data, findings, and recommendations
  3. A dashboard and short report on analysis of company data, findings and recommendations

Project Examples

Students in groups of 3-4 will work with your company to identify your data visualization needs and provide actionable recommendations, based on their in-depth research, analysis and visualization of your data.

Project activities that students will be able to complete include:

  • Clean and prepare company data for summarization and visualization.
  • Apply numerical and visual methods to effectively communicate data insights.
  • Articulate the interpretation of data visualizations both verbally and in writing.
  • Create various visualizations (univariate, multivariate, interactive, animated) using Tableau.
  • Evaluate the accuracy of visualized messages, identify biases, and address potential issues or assumptions.
  • Perform reproducible data analysis on company-provided datasets.
  • Assess the ethical implications of data collection, dissemination, and analysis, considering data source(s).
Companies must answer the following questions to submit a match request to this experience:

Be available for a quick phone/virtual call with the instructor to initiate your relationship and confirm your scope is an appropriate fit for the experience.

Provide a dedicated contact person who is available for weekly/bi-weekly drop-ins to address learners’ questions as well as periodic messages over the duration of the project.

Provide an opportunity for learners to present their work and receive feedback.

Provide relevant information and/or data as needed for the project.
